Full Description
Venous Relief Elevation Device elevates the legs for those with lower limb lymphedema, chronic venous insufficiency, sclerotherapy, and venous ulcers. Made with antimicrobial, flame-resistant fabric, the Navy Venous Relief Device fits the anatomical shape of the leg while lifting the leg above the heart. Additionally, the Ames Walker VRED comes with a cover that is easy to clean and is made with Pressure Management Fabric.
The medical cushion should be used 30 minutes at a time, around three to four times a day.
A good product to pair with this elevation pillow is the Jobst SensiFoot Unisex Knee High Compression Socks, because the positioning of the pillow makes putting on the socks easy for healthcare providers.
Why Degrees of Elevation Matter
According to the manufacturer, “Lying on a flat surface with the thigh tilted 40 degrees maximizes blood flow without kinking the femoral vein.” The manufacturer also mentioned that tilting the lower leg at 15 degrees can help increase blood flow. “The VRED helps to correct the underlying pathophysiology of chronic venous insufficiency by lowering venous pressure and improving sluggish blood flow,” according to the manufacturer as well.
In a 2017 study, Hasanin, et al. concluded that the leg elevation group they tested when compared to the control group had a “significant decrease in the incidence of hypotension and intraoperative vasopressor requirements.”
