The ACe Comfort II wheelchair cushion with patented Shear Reduction Technology by 5 Minds Mobility is a softer cushion for the user wanting optimal comfort and positioning. The GelFlex top provides an additional layer of protection combined with the cooling beneit of gel. Incorporating our Shear Reduction Technology (SRT) is an innovative way for two component parts of the cushion to move on each other in order to absorb shear, at the same time addressing the need for proper immersion. This new approach to shear reduction incorporates multiple layers of foam separated by a low friction material. The cushion itself is designed to absorb forces that damage skin, thereby reducing the risk for skin breakdown. A third party clinical trial was completed by Durham College Department of Nursing and Department of Engineering to validate SRT. The trial provided non-biased support for the efficacy of SRT and it’s use in populations where shear forces can damage vulnerable skin. 5 Minds Mobility received the Colleges of Ontario Network for Industry Innovations Award for SRT.
