evika launches a new site for those living with disability to keep pace with the next generation of assistive technologies. The platform is already home to 700+ reviews across 1200+ devices and a library of videos and blogs from healthcare professionals.
[Waterloo, ON – CANADA – 2021-09-08] Disabilities come in all shapes and sizes. Some are mild, while others are severe. They might affect our senses, our cognition, our mobility, or our behaviour. Within our lifetime 1 in 4 people worldwide will be living each day with a disability stemming from birth, aging, medical diagnosis or traumatic event. Perhaps you are already living with one yourself, or a family member or friend might be affected?
In support of those living with all types of chronic ailments, evika is launching a new website – evika.io – to organize device listings, user reviews and multimedia guides about all things related to assistive devices. “The innovation is moving so fast right now that it’s become unreasonable to expect our healthcare providers, caregivers, vendors, and government agencies to keep pace,” explains evika Co-Founder and CEO, Adam Gryfe. “Some of the best technology is coming from advanced areas like robotics, connected devices, autonomous systems and sensor fusion. These concepts sound overwhelming at first, but there are simple ways to understand their readiness and appropriateness. The mission of our new platform, evika.io, is for anyone – at a glance – to gain familiarity with their best options, whether those are simple or complex.”
It’s an ambitious goal and Mr. Gryfe along with Co-Founder, Paul van der Vorst, will be drawing on their past experience to realize their vision: “When we were at OTTO Motors, it was on us to simplify cutting edge autonomous vehicles so that factory and warehouse workers with no familiarity could work alongside them each day. Now we need to apply that same approach to this industry so that great innovations get their opportunity to impact the people who need them the most.” Mr. Gryfe also recognizes that it will take the community to help make it work: “There’s already [USD] $30 billion worth of assistive device products around the world and 1 billion people who need at least one device. We don’t know everything that’s out there and an experience from someone living with MS or Spinal Cord Injury in the US might change the life of someone living in the UK. It’s our hope that the community will come together to help us build this resource that we all need.”
evika.io is now live and is home to 700+ user reviews across 1200+ assistive devices. It also features an educational library with dozens of informational videos and blogs that have been developed by healthcare professionals to help navigate the quickly expanding world of accessibility. Click through to evika.io to start exploring it for yourself.
