The TOLT Technologies Drive-by-Eye system combines eye tracking and wheelchair controls to enable wheelchair users to drive their chair by looking at a screen.

The computer tablet uses the front facing camera to show the user what is in front of the wheelchair. Big arrows on the screen allow the user to intuitively drive the wheelchair simply by looking at the arrows.

Drive-by-Eye systems offer an alternative to wheelchair controls for people with very limited physical capability. As a drive control, the user must have good spatial awareness and be mentally fit to drive a wheelchair.

Functional Abilities

The user must be able to be positioned and stay positioned appropriately in front of the screen, and be able to move their eyes and be able to see the screen. The Drive-by-Eye system is especially designed for people who are "locked-in". The system requires no physical intervention other than to turn on the computer. While in use, the entire system can be controlled by eye movement alone.
